In business today, being excellent at what you do is essential.
But it’s not always enough.
One of the biggest challenges many women face, especially business owners and professionals, is visibility.
Because no matter how capable, experienced or talented you are, if people don’t notice you, remember you, or think of you at the right moment… opportunities can easily pass you by.
This is exactly what we explored during my recent workshop at the “Create Your Game Plan” event, where I spoke about how style can be used as a strategic tool to support visibility.
Why Visibility Matters More Than Ever
We often think that visibility comes from being louder, more confident, or more extroverted.
But in reality, visibility is not about being the most outspoken person in the room.
It’s about being clear in how you show up.
Clear in:
- who you are
- what you stand for
- and how you present yourself
Because before you speak, your image already has. And people form impressions in seconds.
When your presence feels aligned and intentional, people are more likely to:
- trust you
- remember you
- and connect you with opportunities
What Actually Makes You Visible?
One of the key messages I shared is this: Visibility isn’t about being louder. It’s about being clearer.
And style helps create that clarity through a few key elements:
1. Personality & Comfort
If something doesn’t feel like you, it shows.
When clothes feel forced or uncomfortable, we adjust them, second-guess ourselves, and lose ease in our presence.
But when your style reflects who you are, you move differently. You feel more grounded, more natural — and that becomes visible.
2. Message & Professional Presence
Your clothes communicate before you say a word. They can suggest confidence, professionalism, creativity, or approachability.
When used intentionally, style becomes a tool to support the message you want to deliver about yourself and your work.
3. Visible Elements (like colour, silhouettes and proportions)
The right colours enhance your natural features. They make your skin look healthier, your eyes brighter, and they naturally draw attention to your face, not just your outfit.
And when the shape of your clothes works with your body, everything feels more balanced and intentional.
This creates a sense of harmony that people notice, even if they don’t consciously understand why.
4. The Details (Where the Magic Happens)
This is often the most underestimated part.
A belt. A scarf. Jewellery. Even lipstick. These small elements are what turn clothes into style. They create personality, coherence, and memorability.
The Live Styling Demonstration
To bring these concepts to life, we worked with two wonderful volunteers during the workshop. Each of them had a different personality, lifestyle and professional message they wanted to communicate.
Together, we created outfits using pieces from the event sponsor Kettlewell Colours, and jewellery from Kohatu + Petros, focusing on:
- styling choices that reflected their personality and message
- colours that enhanced their complexion
- silhouettes that supported their proportions
At first glance, the outfits looked complete and intentional. But then we did something interesting.
We started removing elements:
- the scarf
- the belt
- the jewellery
- even lipstick
And with each small change, the impact shifted.

The clothes were exactly the same — but the presence changed.
The outfit became less defined.
Less expressive.
Less memorable.

This was a powerful visual reminder that:
Style is not just about what you wear.
It’s about how you wear it.
From Clothes to Presence
What this demonstration showed — very clearly — is that visibility is not created by dramatic outfits or expensive pieces.
It’s created by:
- alignment
- intention
- and attention to detail
When your style reflects who you are, supports your message, and enhances your natural features, you don’t need to try to stand out.
You simply become easier to see — and easier to remember.

You don’t need to become someone else to be visible.
You don’t need to be louder, more extravagant, or more “fashionable”.
You simply need to show up as the best, most intentional version of yourself. Because style doesn’t change who you are. It helps people see you more clearly.
And when people see you clearly…they remember you.
